Detroit 7, Denison 10

From the sounds of things (a couple first-hand reports I’ve received through e-mail and in the comments), the weekend went poorly for Detroit. Apparently, they were expecting a 6-quarter scrimmage against Denison, with the scrimmage against Lake Erie canceled. However, Lake Erie showed up in Granville, Ohio, and the Detroit-Denison scrimmage was shortened to 4 quarters and Denison scrimmaged Lake Erie afterwards. Doesn’t sound so organized, but maybe there were mitigating circumstances/explanations.

Anyway, the Titans walked home with a 7-10 defeat at the hands of the Big Red. The classic “it’s just fall ball” refrain may seem a little… obvious at this point, but Detroit was playing pretty short-handed (and it seems like they were thrown off by the sudden changeup in the schedule, as well).

Reigning MAAC Freshman of the Year Shayne Adams sat out, along with Joel Matthews, Tim Lehto, AJ Levell, and others. The Titans also rotated through their entire (active) roster – though they had to change up the substitution plan to fit the 4-quarter format, according to reports.

So what does it all mean? Eh… probably not much. It’s unlikely that such a weird combination of factors will come about during regular-season games or even spring scrimmages, and UDM’s roster situation limited the amount of information we can even glean from the scrimmage.
