High School Roundup – May 24, 2011

Playoff season is underway in the State of Michigan, so there’s plenty of action going down.

Mattawan 14, Battle Creek Pennfield 4

The Wildcats moved sophomore Dave Stafford moved from midfield to attack, and rewarded the coaching decision by pouring in seven goals in the victory.

East Lansing 17, Battle Creek Lakeview 4

For whatever reason, the actual content of this story has disappeared. Improbably-named Mack Houlehen had 2 goals and 5 assists for the Trojans.

East Lansing 15, Oxford 1

East Lansing advanced once more by taking it to Oxford.

Saginaw Heritage 11, West Bloomfield 10

Heritage snagged the first postseason victory in program history. They’ll play Brother Rice tomorrow night, which, good luck dudes. Game story from the other side.

Midland 17, Waterford United 1

Alex Zahn put up 4 goals and 4 assists for the Chemic/Chargers. I’m sick of these combined teams. What am I supposed to call them?

Ann Arbor Huron 10, Salem 9 (OT)

Bill Upton

The only thing marring the atmosphere was the knowledge that one of these valiant teams would leave that turf being done for the season.  Ultimately, it was the River Rats who prevailed 10 – 9 in a dandy of a game.

Coming through like a champ even though his kid was out with a knee injury.

Forest Hillses Playoff Preview

The whatever they’re called (RedHawks? Huskies? Who knows?) gear up for their playoff run. They’ll take on Hartland on Thursday. FHC also starts this week, taking on Bay City Western tomorrow.

Bay City Western 7, Lapeer West 5

Speaking of Bay City Western, here’s how they advanced to take on the Rangers. Though the article doesn’t explicitly state it, I believe this was the first postseason victory in program history.

North American Lacrosse Invitational

Inside Lacrosse previewed this event. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it out despite planning to, but 412 Lax has a mini-recap of the first day. I’m sure there’s going to be more written about it, but deadlines is deadlines (even self-imposed ones). UPDATE: More from 412.

Playoff Brackets

In inconvenient, non-bracket form here. MHSAA #1!!!
