Michigan gains first ’14 verbal

I’m not really going to enter the business of putting up a dedicated post every time someone commits, but Michigan has broken the season on the class of 2014, a newsworthy event in the lacrosse recruiting world.

Hugh Mosko from Georgetown Prep (Md.) has committed to play his college lacrosse at Michigan. Mosko – the younger brother of Wolverines freshman midfielder Andrew Mosko – is a defenseman who plays his club ball with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is not in Inside Lacrosse’s Top 20 Young Guns (which, to be fair, includes only two defensemen).

To date, mostly perennially-powerful teams had gained a 2014 verbal. Delaware, Duke, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Penn State, Towson, and Virginia (nine commits already!) are ahead of the game. Michigan seems to be following a similar timeline in the recruiting process.

Where did you see the announcement about Mosko? If true, that’s good news. Georgetown Prep’s sophomore class is very highly regarded. He’s the third sophomore commit from the GPrep sophs that I can find, and you can probably expect a couple of more before spring.

I’ve mentioned this before, but a good portion of the sophomores who have committed listed Michigan as one of their options. So they are obviously targeting these kids, and they are getting some love and probably visits (if not a lot of commitments yet). With Mosko’s brother on the team, this was probably an easier guy to land for JP. I expect them to commit a few more sophomores before summer.

I happened across the info online somewhere a couple days ago, and did a little digging. It seems to be legit, and I expect Inside Lacrosse will have something on it today or tomorrow.

Mosko has indeed committed so it’s 100% true as I confirmed it from a family member. Merry Xmas everyone!
