I make no claims to be a guru of women’s lacrosse, so I’ll let the press release speak for itself:
DETROIT – The 2012 women’s lacrosse schedule has officially been released by Head Coach Laura Maness. The Titans will battle the Florida Gators this year in the season opener which lands on Sunday, Feb. 26. Detroit will stay in the sunshine state to face Jacksonville on Feb. 28 before taking a trip to California to face St. Mary’s, San Diego State, and Cal Berkeley.
“We are eager to hit the ground running with this challenging schedule,” Maness said. “We are playing some of the best teams in the country, and we hope to grow as a team to constantly improve over the course of the season.”
Detroit’s home opener will be played against St. Bonaventure on Sunday, March 11. The Titans also have road contests against Niagara and Duquesne before continuing conference play on March 30.
The Titans will host four games towards the beginning of the NLC schedule. Liberty and Longwood will travel to Titan Field the weekend of March 30-April 1, while Davidson and High Point will end the home stand (April 8/15).
“We want to be competitive and possibly shock some teams out there that have beaten us in the past,” Maness added. “Our goal is to perform well in conference games and play for a National Lacrosse Conference Championship.”
Detroit will play road games against Presbyterian and Howard towards the end of April. The season finale will be a home contest against Cincinnati on April 30. The NLC Tournament will once again be played in Davidson, N.C. The tournament will be held from May 4-6.
“This season is truly special as the inaugural recruiting class will be playing out their senior year,” Maness said. “Hopefully the seniors can leave a positive impact on the program that they helped start.”
