Lax Links

It’s been a long time since I’ve rounded up links, so there should be plenty to work with. First though, let’s not forget about some of the local content from ’round these parts recently.

On with the links.

D-1

Detroit Mercy Titans North Carolina Tar Heels Lacrosse Joe MacLean Joey Sankey

Joe MacLean is now famous. It's science.

Have you ever been featured in Sports Illustrated? UDM’s Joe MacLean has. The junior middie was pictured crushing North Carolina’s Joey Sankey in the Leading Off feature of the March issue of SI.

The Michigan Daily covers the Wolverines’ inaugural victory. Lacrosse Magazine talks Michigan’s first win.

UDM’s Scott Drummond is racking up MAAC rookie of the week honors in the early going this season.

The Detroit women got their season off to an ignominious start, falling 22-3 at the hands of Florida. The lady Titans also fell to St. Mary’s College in a nailbiter. You can see their 2012 yearbook here.

Photos from Michigan’s game against Denver.

Michigan goalie Emil Weiss was named the ECAC rookie of the week after saving 19 shots and allowing 13 goals in his first action of the year, a 9-8 overtime loss to Jacksonville and a 14-4 win over Mercer.

Some official site fluff on Michigan’s David McCormack. Michigan defenseman J.D. Johnson features in a youtube video highlighting the university’s commitment to sustainable transportation. What do you do to kill time on long flights? Michigan sophomore midfielder Jason Davis crochets.

D-3

Quick shout out to the Albion women (you, too, can see your child’s name appear on the internet if you e-mail me!). Team captains Melissa DiRado and Ashley Glenn – high school teammates at South Lyon – will lead the Britons into action March 17 for the opener against Oberlin. Albion is in its second year as a D-3 varsity program.

Staying in Division-3 – but on the men’s side this time – Adrian’s Kevin Lerg was named conference Player of the Week after saving 27 shots in two games last week (thanks to reader Jon for the link).

MCLA

Davenport’s 2012 conference late got off to a strong start over the weekend with a 27-1 victory over Northern Michigan.

Grand Valley State’s early-season results are looking equally strong. The Lakers beat Palm Beach Atlantic 18-9 this weekend.

Aquinas smacked St. Olaf 28-10 over the weekend.

Good times for Michigan squads in the CCLA-2.

The Inside Lacrosse MCLA Podcast(!) talked about the fate of the CCLA without Michigan a couple weeks back.

Recruiting

Michigan-bound Will Perkins gets a shoutout in West Side Lax’s Texas Preview:

This season, most of last year’s squad returns, as they graduated only five seniors and will return with eight starters in 2012. Will Perkins (2012 — Michigan) looks to top his 45 goal total in 2012.

The future Wolverine will be a leader of Dallas St. Mark’s. WSL’s North Central Coast California preview mentions Michigan commit Michael Hernandez, as well.

In ESPNHS’s Maryland preview, McDonogh attackman Evan Glaser, also headed for Michigan, gets a little love.

Radnor (Pa.) 2013 goalie Grace Collins has committed to the Michigan women’s team.

Holt defenseman Justin Saxman has committed to Alma College.

Etc.

All-American Lacrosse captured the War on 94 trophy.
