As always, trying to round up everything that’s going on in the great state of Michigan as it relates to the sport of lacrosse. If I’ve missed anything, let me know via e-mail or Twitter.

I missed one of these a little while back: Michigan’s Class One interview with Matt Graham. Fellow freshman Mike Hernandez gets the treatment as well, followed by Peter Kraus.

Michigan’s second coaching clinic of the fall takes place tomorrow night. E-mail Michigan’s Director of Lacrosse Operations, Joe Hennessy, for more information. I’ll be there, hit me up in the comments or on Twitter if you will as well.

Don’t forget to take a look at Michigan’s spring schedule, including two games in pro sports venues. Michigan’s coach John Paul notes that connections to U-M alums – The Miami Dolphins are owned by Michigan grad Stephen M. Ross and the Mets are owned by Fred Wilpon, another former Wolverine – helped facilitate those high-profile games for the second-year program.

Now, just waiting on UDM to release the Titans’ full 2013 schedule.

Recruiting

Inside Lacrosse reports that Worthington (Ohio) Kilbourne 2014 goalie Michael Turnbull has committed to Detroit:

A starter the past two years at Dublin Scioto (Oh.), Turnbull also participates in wrestling and football at Kilbourne. A member of Resolute, he attended MVP, Tri-State and the Long Island Classic. Turnbull strongly considered Dartmouth, Navy and Ohio State.

Recruiting information is easier to come by for Michigan as a “name” program (regardless of program success to date), so it’s nice to see UDM get some love from IL.

According to True Lacrosse, Luke Ducharme has also committed to Detroit. He’s a midfielder from Ontario – and Detroit’s success recruiting in Canada continues.

A recent IL news blurb mentions a player decommitting from Marquette to pick Hofstra. Not about Michigan per se, but it does point out potential difficulties for teams in non-hotbed areas to lure talent away from home.

MCLA

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s alum Tim Wyderko has been named a captain for Coast Guard’s MCLA team this spring.

Club and Youth

The Traverse City Record-Eagle cites the Cherry Bomb tournament as one of several youth sporting events that helped boost the area’s economy this summer.

Ed Chima, one of the directors of Cherry Bomb Lacrosse, said the study could prompt more discussion with local business officials, particularly lodging interests, “in order for us to make it better for everybody — for the customers coming in and for the local businesses and citizens to enjoy what these folks might bring in.”

Lacrosse: America’s stimulus plan!

The Wolverine Warriors club team participated in the Lake Michigan Fall Classic in the Milwaukee area over the weekend. You can see photos from their trip here.

Old school style for Heat Lacrosse club.

Mike Costello talks about the action on Day 1 and Day 2 of the U.S. Lacrosse 7-on-7 fall tournament. Costello profiles friend-of-the-blog Ken Brubaker and his 313 Lacrosse club.

The Can-Am Showcase this Saturday and Sunday at Detroit Country Day is the big event of the week. The Examiner talks about the event, and 412 Lax regurgitates the press release for the event.

Semi-Pro

The Grand Rapids Dragonsfish fell in the Midwest Indoor Lacrosse Association finals to the Colorado Sabertooths Saturday afternoon.

As always, I’m trying to find everything I can, but some things slip through the cracks. You can find my Twitter and e-mail addresses at the top of the post if you have any news, commitments, etc. to share, or simply post them in the comments.
