Massive High School Roundup

I really did want to go into a little more depth with high school coverage this spring, but that ain’t happenin’ so far. Instead, a huge pile o’ links:

Vicksburg 8, Battle Creek Harper Creek 7 (3OT) – Matt Lowes led Vicksburg in scoring with four points.

Caledonia 17, Grand Rapids South Christian 3 – You can bet Caledonia emptied the bench in this one.

Flint Powers 12, Rochester United 11 (OT) –

Rochester United led by 4 goals at halftime, but the offense for Powers Catholic came alive in the second half.

“Our offense really kicked it up,” Vierk said. “We weren’t playing too well, but we overcame a defecit and fought hard. It was a good win over a tough Rochester United team.”

Holland West Ottawa 13, Grand Rapids Catholic Central 12 – West Ottawa won the second half 7-5 to edge GRCC.

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 13, Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard 9

“We are a young team with several players not having any varsity experience,” Gabriel Richard coach Jim Carl said. “We let up some goals, but Michael Ramos was very good in net for us.”

Grand Rapids Christian 13, Portage Northern 7 – Grand Rapids Christian is running a zone, bringing slow boring lacrosse from the college field to a high school near you!

Lowell 9, Portage Central 8 – The Red Arrows went on a 5-2 run to spark the comeback victory.

Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central 14, Northville 7 – Andrew Kransberger had seven goals and two assists to lead FHC to victory.

Okemos 9, Saline 8 (7!!! OT) – Saline-focused article doesn’t even mention who scored the game-winner in this marathon.

Rockford 6, Haslett-Williamston 5 (OT) – From the sounds of things, Rockford wasn’t pleased with the performance despite emerging victorious.

Midland/Dow 19, Davison 7 – The article refers to goals as “points” which I always find really funny.

Ann Arbor Pioneer 13, Ann Arbor Skyline 3 – No details available. A different report said the score was actually 14-3, but actually managed to include fewer details, a feat in itself.

Flint Powers 11, Rochester Adams 8 – Spencer Owen scored five goals in the Powers win.

Brighton 17, Ann Arbor Huron 5 – Balanced scoring for Brighton, which saw 10 different players put on in the back of the net.

Ypsilanti Lincoln 16, Romulus 3 – Ray Pressly had six goals and an assist for the Railsplitters.

Holland Christian 15, Zeeland East-West 4 – Holland Christian took home the Battle Of Who Can Be More Dutch.

Battle Creek Lakeview 10, Vicksburg 9 (OT) – Tyler Polendo had six goals for Lakeview.

Grand Haven 9, Grand Rapids Christian 6

“Our face offs were excellent today,” Grand Haven coach Murle Greer said. “And I don’t think their attackers had a single goal.”

Howell 14, Chelsea 7

Chelsea goalie Josh Galbreath finished with 21 saves, including nine in the first quarter.

Poor dude got shelled.

Davison 13, Swartz Creek 4 – Kirk McQuillan set a team record with eight goals for Davison (including the first six).

Portage Central 10, Holland West Ottawa 4

“I thought we beat ourselves tonight but not playing up to our potential,” [West Ottawa coach Brad] Vredevoogd said.

Ann Arbor Greenhills 8, Plymouth 7 – The winning goal with just 19 seconds in regulation, courtesy of Henry Aspegren.

Midland/Dow 17, Grand Blanc 3 – Connor Baak and Ryan Sweeney had identical four goal, one assist scorelines for the combined team from Midland.

Holland Christian 9, Caledonia 3

Defenseman Jon Hop had four take-aways and 10 ground balls for the Maroons, and in midfield Connor Heidenreich racked up seven ground balls and five wins to one loss in face-offs.

Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard 9, Salem 6

Carl also credited defender Mark Tanski for a power job on defense, along with Nick Pauzy, as the three helped Gabriel Richard remain in front.

I don’t know what a “power job” is.

Saline 20, Temperance Bedford 0 – Please hammer don’t hurt ’em.

Rockford 13, Grand Rapids Catholic Central 1

Rockford’s Connor Flynn made eight saves in three quarters, giving up the lone GRCC goal, in a victory.

Flynn is bound for UDM next year.

Lake Orion 8, Rochester Stoney Creek 5 & Clarkston 10, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 5.

Battle Creek Pennfield 11, Portage Northern 4 – Pennfield led 7-0 at halftime.

Holt 13, Forest Hills Eastern/Northern 3

In the distant future (let’s call it “Sunday”), the Cincinnati Moeller website will webcast their game against Brother Rice.

Girls:

Bloomfield Hills United 19, Notre Dame Prep 12 – Margaret Metzger had seven goals and three assists, and Maria D’Angelo had six and two.

As always, if you have game reports or links to articles, leave them in the comments, or tweet/e-mail me.

  1. CKLaxalum says:

That list is a testament to the growth in the number of teams in Michigan. According to Laxpower, there are 101 MHSAA and 17 Club teams, which is more than a quadrupling of teams in the past 10 years. However, quantity versus quality is just as big of an issue.
