Crushers for UDM yesterday. Alas, the season moves along. All collegiate varsity action finished up yesterday, but there’s still MCLA activity, and the slight calm before the playoff storm in high school.

Not crushers for UD, but kudos. They played the nation’s #2 seed even for 55 minutes. The Titans played with energy and belief. Take away a sequence of 4 missed clears in the fourth quarter by UD, and we might have had the greatest upset in modern lax playoff history. The coach and captains did a hell of a job getting the Titans ready for the game.

  2. AndyD says:

I said last week I thought UDM had a chance (not that I’m in told you so mode since most people on here support the Titans, but…) Combination of a lot of factors:

UDM came in hot, winning 3 elimination games in a row to make it to this point.
ND came in cold, getting smoked and completely losing their offense in two straight games. Their vaunted defense had also probably lost some confidence against Syracuse.
UDM had nothing to lose and riding wave of emotion. Already playing with a loose style that fit their attitude.
ND had all the pressure on them. #2 seed. Home. Playing a team many felt didn’t even belong in the tournament.
    Finals week at ND.
UDM with chip on their shoulder (which I think is always there).

As much difference as there is between the two programs, this was a great example of the parity in D1 lacrosse. Nobody can just sleepwalk through a game and expect to win. You have to bring it. Detroit brought it. ND didn’t bring it until the end. Unfortunately for the Titans the talent and experience gap became evident in those last five minutes. Plus the 10 man ride that ND threw at them was effective.

The Irish have a lot to fix if they are going to get to Philadelphia.

Detroit can hold their heads up and should. They got better as the year went on.

    Tim,

Great analysis of the UDM-ND game!

Why do I get the feeling that if U of M were ever to be in a meaningful game, that the analysis would go a little deeper than “Crushers”… Hmmmmm.

    • Reg Hartner says:

I’m writing up a post season report and I know Tim will too. We were both at the game and as much as he get’s hammered by the UDM folks for being a Michigan Homer (and he is) he was screaming at the refs and cheering for The Titans. He was leaving post game to travel for his real job. I’m sure he’ll get something up soon.

I’ll get something up about the end of this year and “what’s next” for 13-14.
