This question came up at the MCLA tournament in Denver last week. Can Division-1 LAX players from other schools transfer to Michigan without sitting out one year since this will be the inaugural varsity season?

I’m not 100% certain on transfers (outside of football and basketball), but I’m fairly certain that transfers who HAVEN’T completed a 4-year degree still have to sit out a year if they go to an institution in the same Division. Guys who have a degree and a year of eligibility remaining could transfer without sitting out that year. This doesn’t apply to transfers from Presbyterian, which is shuttering its D-1 program (not sure they have anyone with mutual Michigan interest anyway).

I’ll look into the full NCAA rules, and have a post on this (and many other aspects of Michigan’s D-1 jump) in the coming days.
