High School Roundup

It’s been a little while, so this should be a hefty update. If you have any game reports or photos you’d like to share, you can e-mail them to t.w.sullivan1@gmail.com.

Brother Rice 14, Birmingham 1

Brother Rice Birmingham Lacrosse

You ain't messin' with my Dougie.

Article from the Seaholm student paper. The caption for the photo is “Seaholm Junior J.D. Hess gets pumped up before a game,” but I think it could just as easily be capturing the agony of defeat. Or he’s doing the Dougie.

East Grand Rapids 10, Detroit Country Day 9

Tough season for the Yellow Jackets, especially for a team that some (apparently uninformed) observers was going to be among the best in the state this year. EGR trailed 8-9 in the fourth before sealing a comeback win.

Brother Rice 17, Country Day 3

After the previous two items, this one just really ties the room together.

Flint Powers 12, Ann Arbor Gabriel Ricard 8

Dominic Harper scored 3 goals and 2 assists in the Powers win.

East Lansing 12, Okemos 11

Big upset in the middle of the state. Sounds like East Lansing’s keeper Kevin Murphy stood on his head in the second half to help the Trojans steal a win.

Lapeer West 8, Saginaw Heritage 5

A four-goal output from Joe Scola wasn’t enough to prevent Heritage from falling.

Flint Powers 11, Madison Heights Bishop Foley 4

Another win for Powers.

De La Salle 12, Troy Athens 11

This is old (March 31st), but thanks to Lacrosse Playground for pointing out the video:

There’s another angle in the linked post.

Port Huron 12, Bay City Central 4

MLive article.

Ann Arbor Huron 21, Ypsilanti Lincoln 1

Huron notched assists on 14 of 21 goals, but “the plucky and disciplined Railsplitters gained the respect of everyone in attendance.”

Dexter 20, Ann Arbor Greenhills 2

VMI-bound Andrew Erber had 4 goals and 4 assists for the Dreadnaughts.

Forest Hills Northern/Eastern 17, Forest Hills Central 7

The Husky/Redhawks (what are they even called?) proved their 1-goal victory over the Rangers was no fluke, as they blew the doors off FHC in the rematch.

Holt 10, East Lansing 6

Holt had 50 shots on goal, scoring 10 times and giving up 24 saves. Methinks the author doesn’t know what constitutes a shot on goal.

Dexter 17, Tecumseh 0

Blowout city.

Huron 7, South Lyon 5

Bill Upton harkens back to the eloquent sportswriting of the Grantland Rice days:

By the end of the evening, Huron’s leading scorer, Henry Upton, was rending his garments in despair. However, in mockery of those triskaidekaphobiacs in the crowd, there were two players who apparently didn’t get the memo that this was to be a defensive struggle — both wore number 13.

I feel like I’m reading a game report from the 1910s. #13 for the Rats is Kyle Aaronson, who score 6 of Huron’s 7 goals.

Utica Eisenhower’s Chris Perry

(Not to be confused with some other Chris Perry). The D Zone blog interviews Eisenhower’s star junior.
