High School Roundup – May 19, 2011

With a 1-day lull in the MCLA Championships festivities, I have an opportunity to run down the coverage of high school games in the Great Lax State. Preview of the Michigan-Arizona State game comes tomorrow.

Forest Hills Central 13, East Grand Rapids 7

West Michigan All-Star provides a brief recap of the game, along with a number of photographs.

Utica Eisenhower 11, Grosse Pointe North 1

The D-Zone blog brings the recap and some photos/videos.

Brother Rice 10, Detroit Catholic Central 5

The Oakland Press previewed the game, concluding that it’s now-or-never for DCC to take down Rice. Oddly, there’s no postgame news, but LaxPower reveals that Rice emerged with the victory.

Notre Dame Prep 13, Flint Powers 1

Oakland Press game preview. The Fightin’ Beauregards (Brandon and Kyle) notched a point on all but one NDP goal.

Bay City Central 8, Swartz Creek 6

Bay City Times breaks down the game.

Ann Arbor Pioneer 11, Ann Arbor Huron 4

Bill Upton’s recap lacks its typical flourish. This does not change the fact that I want him to write my obituary.

Troy Athens 10, Holt 7

A game preview from MLive. MLive not only provides an in-depth recap, but also video:

Flint Powers 14, Lapeer West 1

Powers had a hat trick of hat tricks, as Nick Racine scored 3 goals to join the 5 apiece for Gino Scarpelli and Jimmy Davis.

Bay City Western 10, Bay City Central 5

Western sealed its first winning record in program history in the victory. For a second-year program, that ain’t bad.

Davison 12, Saginaw Heritage 4

Four different goal-scorers for Heritage.

Forest Hills Northern/Eastern 7, Forest Hills Central 6

The game was mostly put away before FHC went on a 4-1 run in the fourth to make it a close result. Northern and Eastern need to get their own teams so I’m not always confused about what to call the combination.

Lowell 22, Holland Christian 14

A barn-burner as Lowell captured a share of the Tier 2 crown.

Saline 20, Ann Arbor Huron 7

Bill Upton back on his game:

On a humid night under threatening skies the Saline Hornets men’s lacrosse team ventured into Riverbank Stadium for a Southeastern Conference matchup with the Huron High River Rats.  When the final horn sounded, the Hornets walked away with a resounding win of 20 – 7.

The contest also benefitted a good cause:

In one respect, the Huron lacrosse teams registered a major success on this night.  The teams were dedicating the evening’s games to their past players who have gone on to serve in the military.

Go Rats Go.

Flint Powers 16, Davison 2

Dominic Hamper led Powers with 8 points.

Saginaw Heritage 8, Bay City Central 1

Heritage sealed a 3-0 record in the Saginaw Valley League.

Ann Arbor Huron 10, Ann Arbor Skyline 6

Bill Upton’d:

Three goals can’t be considered a safe lead in lacrosse until a game enters its final half minute.  With a full 12 minute quarter remaining and a three-goal lead, the outcome is very much in doubt.

He’s like a modern-day laxdad version of Grantland Rice.

South Lyon 9, West Bloomfield 7

The South Lyon Lions (from South Lyon (Lions)) built an early lead and held on for the win.

North American Lacrosse Invitational

Brother Rice hosts the NALAX Invitational this Saturday and Sunday. For more information on the tournament, check out the official website.

Playoff Pre-Regionals

The MHSAA playoffs officially get underway this weekend with the pre-regional round. Matchups can be seen on the MHSAA website.
