Michigan Natives (Still) Playing Division-1 Ball

With only 16 teams left playing in the Division-1 lacrosse season, there are far fewer natives of the Great Lax State still in action. Here’s who they are:

1. Syracuse (None)

2. Cornell (None)

3. Johns Hopkins

  • Junior Defenseman #30 Andrew Cote (Brother Rice)

4. Notre Dame

  • Senior Midfielder #21 Jake Marmul (Detroit Catholic Central)

5. Duke (None)

6. Denver (None)

7. Virginia (None)

8. North Carolina (None)

Maryland

  • Junior Midfielder #6 Joey Fontanesi (Brother Rice)

Bucknell (None)

Villanova

  • Junior Midfielder #1 Joe Payne (Brother Rice)

Delaware (None)

Penn (None)

Hofstra

  • Sophomore Midfielder #32 Michael Hamilton (Brother Rice)

Hartford (None)

Siena (None)

The options are few and far between here. Cote hasn’t played for Hopkins yet this year, and Walker never played for Villanova – and is no longer listed on their roster Joe Payne has only played in 2 games for Villanova. Fontanesi has only entered four games for the Terps, and his full statline for the year consists of one committed turnover. Hamilton has hardly gotten more run for Hofstra, playing in six games and causing 3 turnovers with 2 GBs, and committing 2 penalties for 2:30.

That means that Marmul is your best rooting interest for a Michigan native. He has played in all but 1 game for the Irish, winning 44 of 88 faceoffs (with 22 GBs) and notching 2 assists on the season.

Correction. Joe Payne from Rice is still on the roster at Nova. Bryan Walker is on the team at Yale.

  2. Clark Bell says:

How about some love for a stellar DIII player, Justin Tuma? I know it’s not DI but being talked about for All American is pretty durn cool.

He should be up for player of the year. Everyone talks about Jeremy Thompson at Cuse. Tuma has more Gs, As and better FO % than Thompson.

No worries. I could make some smart ass M Go Blog like comment about the mistake, but I won’t.
